Nashville resort gardener tends to 50,000 plants

Hollis Malone’s garden is gigantic and enjoyed by many. Malone is in charge of maintaining 50,000 tropical plants, rare international blooms and Southern species at the sprawling Gaylord Opryland Resort & Convention Center.

His garden covers nine acres of lavish landscape inside soaring, glistening glass atriums at the resort, which bills itself as the largest non-gaming hotel facility in the continental U.S. There are literally hundreds of species.

Home Heavily Damaged By Fire In North Nashville

A home in north Nashville suffered serious damage in an early morning fire. It broke out around 3:30 a.m. Thursday at a home on Alice Street. The homeowner told fire crews that she had gone to bed, but then noticed smoke. She went to investigate and found flames coming out of the back of the home.

She was able to get out of the house safely. Her grandson who lives with her was at work on a third shift. Fire crews were able to get the blaze under control but the home suffered heavy damage.

Rand Paul’s Pat-Down Standoff With TSA in Nashville Ends

Sen. Rand Paul told his communications director this morning he was being detained by TSA at the Nashville airport. The Twitter account associated with Paul staffer Moira Bagley, moirabagley, tweeted around 10 a.m., ET, “Just got a call from senrandpaul. He’s currently being detained by TSA in Nashville.”

A TSA spokesman disputed that Paul was ever “detained.” But he was not granted access to the secure area of the airport when he tried to board a flight Monday morning.

Rand Paul Is Stopped by T.S.A. in Nashville

Senator Rand Paul, the libertarian-leaning Republican from Kentucky, was detained at the airport in Nashville by the Transportation Security Administration on Monday, according to people close to the lawmaker, although the T.S.A. quickly disputed their account.

Instead, the agency said the senator had been denied entry to the secure part of the airport after refusing a pat-down,and was “escorted” from the screening area by local law enforcement, but had never been “detained.” Mr. Paul was later rebooked on a different flight and was “re-screened without incident,” the agency said.

Nashville Celebrates Martin Luther King, Jr.

From coast to coast, cities and towns paid tribute to Dr. Martin Luther King Junior on what would have been his 83rd birthday. In Nashville residents attended lectures, participated in service events and marched in his honor. Many people spent the holiday giving back to the community- doing what Dr. King was all about :giving back to make the lives of others better.

Hundreds of others joined in on the annual MLK march in North Nashville. It was raining , but that did not stop people from showing up to honor the legacy of social justice for all mankind that Dr. King died for. Traditionally Nashville has one of the largest MLK marches in the county.

Nashville police say arm-length tattoo leads to suspect

Nashville police say a tattoo helped lead them to a suspect in a number of armed robberies dating back to last June.

Officers said in a news release Friday that victims described an arm-length tattoo on the robber. As a result, Tisa Williams was taken into custody Friday on three aggravated robbery warrants and was held in lieu of $150,000 bond.

Police did not describe the tattoo.

Nashville officer hit by car may be home soon

The Hermitage patrolman critically injured while directing traffic Saturday at an accident scene is talking, joking around and likely to be released from the hospital within the week.

Metro police officer Brent Hoadley’s family thanked the public and the police department for the outpouring of support since Hoadley, 31, was struck by a car on Murfreesboro Pike.
